Locally collected rock question
I have recently collected a bunch of rocks from local creeks.
Some of then have what looks to be iron streaks, would this hurt my planted tank or my goldfish or cory?
I just want to be sure!
Thanks!
Jasmine

I'm not sure. Probably not, assuming there are only a few rocks and they are not changing the color of the water. I'm just guessing.

They shouldn't cause any problems. You'll want to make sure that they are very clean, especially if they were collected from near a roadway, but a few iron streaks won't cause problems. A bigger concern is if they contain chemicals that will change your pH. You can test that out by adding a few drops of the strongest acid you can get your hands on (or submerge them in vinegar for a night otherwise) and see if they bubble.

A bit of iron won't cause any problem, but a lot of iron will discolour your water.
Be sure there isn't any mica (fool's gold) in the rocks. That can be problematic. So, look for rocks that don't have noticeable mineral type deposits.
