dead fish

Looking for a little help with this one. i have a 55 gal heavly planted tank and am loosing fish for what I thought was no apperent reason. Today I get home to find one of my fish floating on the top of the water completly encased in some kind of white fuzz. I have no idea what this is. All water parameters are in check. I also noticed some of the other fish with a just a couple of white spots.....ick? A few weeks ago I thought c couple fish had ick and i treated the tank with Maracide per directions (days 1-3-5) but this last dead gish has me baffled being completly encased in this white fuzz ball.....Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated....Thanks...Brian....Also just noticed that one of my cardinal tetras is missing some scales on its back.

sorry, there is no way we can tell what it is. If they have a few spots, check if they get more... then medicate the tank for ick. Be sure to remove carbon from the filter if you have any. Could it be CO2 poisoning? Is the tank cycling, could it be a nitrite/ammonia spike?

It would help if you say what kind of fish you have, and what kind of fish died. It could be a species specific disease, like Neon Tetra Disease.

The white fuzz just appears on decaying matter, especially dead fish, because organisms infiltrate their body, as it is unprotected from a slime coat when the fish dies. THe fish did not die from fungus, the fungus grows on dead fish. And seeing that they are floating, they have been dead for at least 1 day.
