Kind souls -

Is this some sort of lobelia? It is growing verrrry slowly with lots of algae. Perhaps it is not aquatic? There has been a steady supply of them at my LFS. "Some purple plant" is what they actually called it.

It might be Hemigraphis colorata, not a true aquatic but may survive up to a year submersed (encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants).

Yet another example of "disposable aquarium plants," I guess. Thanks for the help, Urkevitz.

Apparently H. colorata is popular for speeding wound healing in folk medicine. Fascinating. I cut myself shaving this morning and tonight's trimming time. When I pull it up, shall I grind some up and post the results?

i see it as red crinkle, and I always get Rosedale mill's managers mad when I tell potential buyers it's a terrestrial plant and will die in the tank.

I can attest to the fact that I haven't had much luck with it either. It was sold as "purple crinkle" at my LFS. It looks great when you put it in the tank, but it has grown VERY slowly, and the new leaves are growing in kind of deformed a bit and not looking like they will ever turn purple like the other leaves when I bought it. A number of the original leaves have since fallen off.

It still looks good overall, but clearly in time eventually it won't. I've had it for about 2-1/2 months now.
