Planted 3D Background

So I was looking at some tank pictures and I came across these marine tanks that used really great visual effects to produce a very realistic 3D background.

Thats when I came up with the idea of maybe doing the same thing with a planted tank. Possibly using fake plants, a little window tint and some dim backlighting?

What do you guys think?

Oliver Knott does this with his tanks, uses a frosting material on the back, and then uses LED's to get the colors he wants. The second and third pictures with the shadowbox stuff is pretty darn neat though

Do you think it would be possible to do something planted with shadowbox effects? I suppose it wouldn't have to be plant themed, just some sort of natural freshwater background scene.

I've considered a 3D internal background but I think I would rather figure something out on the outside so I can leave as much room in the tank as possible.
