Hmm, is this a possibility for better plant growth?

long story short, i remember reading somewhere online (it's on the web so it *must* be true, right? ) that negative ion generators (and ionic air cleaners) in addition to removing smoking odors, and giving the air a clean, crisp smell, one their other "miraculous" benefits* (call me skeptical, but this smacks of "snake oil") also helps plants grow larger and more vigorously

i'm skeptical, as the retailers are making all sorts of grandiose promises of these devices (they *do* work well for killing smoking odors and controlling dust, that's not debatable), however, i have 2 ionizers running in the bedroom (my old apartment was a second floor apartment above a chain smoker and i needed 2 ionizers to kill the faint stench of smoke constantly wafting up thru the floor.

my current place is nonsmoking, i have the ionizers running because i'm a technician and love electrical/electronic gadgets ) and i've noticed a marked increase in the growth of the plants in the 20 Long jungle and the 10 gallon Betta tank, the only thing i've changed is adding the ionizers, a betta tank downstairs has the same lighting and water conditions and the plant growth is much slower

it seems logical to me that since the air in my room has the fresh, clean smell of ionized air, that same ionized air is being introduced into the tank thru the power filters and the plants are growing much more rapidly and healthier in response to it

there has to be a logical explination for this, i find it hard to believe that the ionizers are helping, i'm a skeptic, but the plants do seem to be growing incredibly well, and the only change i've made was to add the ionizers.....

* increasing energy and alertness, controlling allergies/asthma, increasing immune system strength, making colors seem brighter and crisper, making you smarter and more attractive, paying all your bills for you, increasing your car's fuel mileage and cooking you dinner <yes, i made *some* of these up, but it's no different than what the retailers are trying to pull>
