Water Change question

So I have my 60G downstairs in the basement and there is no utility sink that I can dump the water into while siphoning. What I have been doing is filling up 5G buckets, walking up the stairs, and dumping it in my toilet (since I don't have a garden anymore until next year).

I was wondering if I could just run my siphon into my sump pump and discard the water that way rather than make 6-8 trips up and down the stairs with the bucket just to dump it out?

What's stopping you from doing it? That's basically what I do except I don't have a sump pump mine goes in the floor drain though.

I had a feeling that it would work, just wanted to make sure first before I flood my basement

The wife would be pissed

That is what I do, too. I just siphon directly into the sump hole. I don't have a pump, since we never get water in our basement. I just siphon into the sump hole and it seeps into the ground. Never a problem.

I would just advise that you pay attention not to suck up anything like gravel or plant pieces that may clog your sump pump. Other than that, you should be good.
