37 gallon not 37 gallons.

today, i took a look at a few gallon calculators. Aparently, my 37 gallon eclipse tank is not 37 gallons, but 34. It is 30" long, 12" wide, and 22-23" tall.
Can anyone verify this for me? I cant believe Marineland would do something like this.

I get 34.33 gallons if it's 22" tall and 35.9 if it's 23" tall.

The marketing sizes are nominal sizes. A 17" CRT monitor only has about 15" of viewable screen. Name only.

As far as actual combo systems, the largest they make and package together is a 29. I don't see any 37's under the Perfecto brand either. I have a tank the same as yours, but I bought it used so I don't know how it was advertsied, but it's not a Marineland product. It's basically the same footprint as a 29 gallon, just taller.

I don't suppose there's a chance that the retailer you bought it at packaged the Eclipse III Filter/Hood system with one of his tanks and just called it an Eclipse is there?

The stated volume of my Oceanic 30 is dead on for all intents and purposes.

i made a mistake in buying the tank anyway, because i only ended up using the actual tank... i got a new lighting system because i couldn't retrofit the old one, and I had to buy a new filter. What a waste of money.

Just to be sure, the Eclipse Systems are packaged in a box together, is that how you bought it?

Perfecto I guess does make a 37, same dimensions as yours but it's only available in Oak rim and doesn't come packaged with an Eclipse, two seperate companies, same parent company.

But the Perfecto would have the same over statement at least.

But quite frankly, a difference of 3 gallons isn't really critical when it comes to dosing. Unless your using triple beam scales and graduated cylinders, chances are you're off a bit in dosing anyway.

The industry bench mark for tank size is the volume of the box the tank would come in if it had a box. Like others mentioned, the calculated volume of water is minus substrate and hardscape and assumes water up to the rim...

Moved to Tucson.

Hmmm, must be either so new it's not on their site yet, or perhaps discontinued.

Myself, as I said, I have the same size tank, I bought it with the idea of planting it with taller plants, maybe some Amazons and such. They are a nice tank size, I like the proportion regardless of the volume.

Fellow "37g" owner here - AGA though...tall plants brewing...pics soons...
Same footprint as the 29 perfecto (using a Marineland sedona stand for this one), but 37 is taller...and to me, looks nicer with the cap...

If you really (really) need to know exactly how many gallons of water you have, it gets a bit tricky. First of all, you need to measure by the inside dimensions of the tank. Then you have to subtract whatever height you would leave empty at the top. Multiply out the dimensions to get cubic inches, then divide by 230.4 to get gallons. Then subtract for gravel, driftwood, plants, fish (for oscar owners).

All in all, it's probably just best to guesstimate.

Well at least you know you haven't been *underdosing* And if you use Tom Barr's EI, then it shouldn't make a lick of difference.
