seeding substrate with bacteria?

Is using the bacteria seeders or bio starters any good? I know ADA have the bacter 100 which is a power that is suppose to contain bacteria. Do these work? Or should we just let the substrate produce its own bacteria.

I used Nutrafin Cycle as an experiment on my 5.5 gallon. My tank was completely cycled (Ammonia and Nitrites 0) after 8 days, didn't do any water changes or add any other chemical to the water just to test it out. I purposefully overstocked it with 6 Rosy Cheek Minnows as the ammonia source. It's been 2 months now and it's still going strong.

Which product were you thinking of using?
