Thumbs down Missing Duckweed Dilemma.

Good morning,

I used to have a lot of DW in my tropical fish 30 BR planted open tank. In the last month it is disappearing little by little every day and I do not get any new growth. All the other plants are doing OK.

EI dosing with extra Iron dosing
Pressurised CO2 "can't count" bps.
2 36W Midday & AquaFlora raised 16" above tank.

Any help with my dilemma ? Thanks folks.

This might be a silly question if you are already wise to the ways of duckweed, but have you increased any surface movement or decreased your nitrates, or increased your lighting? For some reason Duckweed seems to hate my tanks with surface movement and high light, but it LOOVES my low light low movement tanks and grows like crazy in those.

Um, and this is a problem?

Has your tank always been open topped? I've noticed that duckweed seems to grow much faster in covered tanks.

Hi ashes,

I always had lots of current (Koralias) and Rena filtration in my tanks and the DW did very good. The only thing I did recently was lowering my light intensity using window screen. My wife this is the reason my DW almost disappear. Btw, she's not an expert Oh, I always dose Excel daily to keep away bba.

Hi chicken

I like it b/c it provides shade here and there. Anyway, I find this very starnge since most ppl are having trouble getting rid of DW. Always had open tanks.

Could be the light change, but I really have no idea lol. I'm not an expert, I just know I have LOTS of it. If you need some let me know and I will send you a bag lol. I have 3 10s and a 20 that have the surface pretty much covered in duckweed. =)

Do you have fish that is snacking on this?

I have hungry tetras that snack on any plant material they can find...

In the summer time, I had a few buckets with DW growing outside and I would harvest half a pound or more. In a matter of a few days with about 15 various tetras it was all gone.

I have Tetras, Zebras, Cardinals...........I was toying with that idea but, I thought they can't eat that much DW. Btw, the same thing is happening in my 10g rcs only planted tank. Of course I messed with the light on this tank also. I took the screen mesh off 3 days ago. Let's see what happens.
