How long does your 5lb tank last?

Just that. I think there is something awry with the setup I have on my 75.

I have a 10lb tank. 4 months top, if you only know how much CO2 I am pumping. 5lb for a 75g.... Do you have a lot of plants? Do you always try to get the drop checker to turn lime green?

A 5lb tank used to last me 6 months on my ADA 120-P (a little over 64 gallons). However, my photoperiod back then was only 6 hours per day, and only injecting enough CO2 to drop my pH from 7.2 to 6.0.

Probably use up the tank quicker now that my photoperiod is up 8 hours per day, and dropping my pH from 7.7 to 6.1.

Interesting conclusion. If you've been running it more than 10 hours per day, then yes, definitely. But not because you use up CO2 (CO2 is among the cheapest parts of this hobby in the long run), but because it's not ideal for the plants.

My guess is that at 8 hours a day on a 75g, a 5lb tank will last you an absolute minimum of 2 months. Less than that, and even close to that, and you need to bust out the soapy water and find your leak(s).

Three months has been about average for me on my 75g, but I'm at 3.5 months on this tank since going lower light. I've turned it down a bit so longer was expected.

I think this is what you should do. Keep pumping your CO2 until your drop checker to turn lime green. Then, see if you can count your bubble rate. It could be so fast that it is pointless to count. Keep this setting running for 2 weeks, and then you weight your tank + regulator = total weight. The total weight minus the weight of your tank alone when empty (the weight should be stamped on the side of the tank) and minus the weight of the regulator (maybe 2 pounds). That should give you an idea how much CO2 you have left.

For me, I used about 2lb+ per month. I have medium light and HUGE plant mass.

do what I did...next refill, get a piece of tape and write the date on it in magic marker...stick it to the side of your cylinder

then no more guessing or estimates

Yea, I have a 36 bowfront with a fairly decent plant mass (not lightly planted by any means) and I get green-yellow after about 2 hours of co2 running with about 3bps diffused right under my eheim intake. Using a 20oz paintball tank and GLA regulator I get about 2.5 months per refill 9h photoperiod a day
