Help with a new tank issue

So I have had my 12 gallon nanocube running for a couple of months. Last week this new stuff showed up. I think its that cynobacteria. My tank smells kinda nasty. The bacteria is kind of a dark green and lays over substrate in sheets. I tried to gravel vac it but it just stays glued to the rocks. Also I wanted to mention that this just showed up one day.

A bit about my tank, I used gravel from my other well established tank. I have one small crypt, a amazon sword and 20 or so frogbits floating on the top.

I do water changes weekly. I normally do 10%.

Lights are on 8 hours.

Any advice on a fix would be appreciated. I did some reading and I read to try to do a 3-4 day blackout, so I am gonna do that.

If it is cyno. you'll need an antibiotic. Regular water changes and reduce the dead spots (places without water movement) will help, but you'll probably need to "nuke" the tank. (An interesting term used when refering to treating the tank with antibiotics.)

I have been battling this for a while now, tried everything - blackout, emptied the tank and H202'ed it and filled it back up - it still came back. I was told by someone locally to try the fish med maracyn (spelling?) and to follow the dosing instructions and it should clear up within a week, so I'm gonna give that a go and see how it does. I just reduced my lighting a good bit so hopefully it won't come back (that is, if I can ever get rid of it!)

Ok I will try to nuke it if it doesnt go away in a few days. I think im good on dead spots. I think I have some pretty good flow, but i will move the nozel to new place just for the heck of it.

Dishy, I hope you get yours cleared up! I have had a few tanks and just never had this issue pop up before.

Low flow and low Nitrate levels are the main cause of this issue.

I read that but what can you do to raise your Nitrates?

Dry dose KNO3 which is potassium nitrate.

Made this little video a few minutes. Could someone confirm that I actually have that cynobacteria by looking at the video? It not the best quality but I think you can get an idea of the issue.

Oh ya looks like cyno to me! It's so irritating isn't it. I dosed this stuff called Ultra Life Blue Green Algae remover on Tuesday; it said it should work within a week so now I'm just waiting. If this doesn't work then I will try the KNO3.

Dang bad news came home to a dead fish. My oldest fish. I had him for almost 2 years. And the water looks like it has lint floating around in it. Thousands of super tiny particles. Not really sure what to do.
