i'm no expert, but i would spray it on a cloth if you need to use it, and then just wipe the tank with the cloth.
i try not to spray anything near my tanks. . .

Yeah don't spray directly on tank, im sure some particles would get into the water, unless you have a cover. +1 Cloth.

+1 to the cloth, that's how I clean my tanks

I use vinegar and newsprint to clean all glass/mirrors/tanks. Works much better the Windex/ammonia based glass cleaner. The newpaper works just as well or better than cloth or paper towels. The added bonus is that the vinegar "overspray" is far less toxic than Windex

i've always sprayed paper towel with windex and cleaned the glass - never a problem.

Outside no problem with the above advice; Inside: I have a hard time teaching the fish to hold the squeege right and not to leave streaks!

I've always sprayed it onto a rag and used it that way. I'm probably just buying into the hype that it's going to hurt my tank. I'd be more worried about whatever makes it blue and the fragrances added to it than the 2% ammonia in the Windex. I believe it contains ethylene glycol as well, which isn't something I would typically add to my aquarium water.
