school project, diy co2..

Hi, my son decided to do a diy co2 unit for a school project (2 glasses, 2 plants, diy co2 unit, feeding into one glass with an aquarium plant in it.) one glass is the control, one the benifits? of a co2 unit? the glasses are relatively large, and the co2 unit is bubbling away, but we just used a standard fish tank airator, and it is giving a reasonably large bubble output, single stream... so question is, will the co2 diffuse enough to help/benifit the plant? or should I look at a better dispersal? working on the theory that some of the co2 is being taken in by the water, thus the plant.

the other question is, should he put a cover over the top of the glass?

thank you for your assistance
