screen mesh

Hi everyone, how you all doing?
I have an old window screen down in my basement, is that safe to use in my tank to use over a tile for moss?
are the holes too small?

Thanks
-Matt

I'm no expert but I think it may start to rust if it's made out of metal. I found a nice piece of thin plastic with holes in it that works perfectly. Good luck

You could always take a piece & stick it in a bucket of water for a couple weeks to see what happens. If it's metal, I think it will rust eventually. When in doubt, throw it out. Go to Home Depot & purchase a small piece of plastic mess screening or look for a piece of plastic sheet that's perforated like the piece I used.

Just buy some stainless steel mesh. And i'm pretty sure window screen mesh has way to small of openings.

i would just get the fabric mesh for screen doors as it wont degrade, even stainless will over time just takes longer. the fabric shouldnt have that problem and your using it to tie to a tile so it can an will work, the only thing working against it is its not rigid but that doesnt apply to your case. hell you might even find a place that rescreens doors an they'd prob give u there scraps i know my old local hardware store would. i found it to have to small of holes though for my personal taste.

i found much much better things to work like the loufa shower thing or go to any arts an craft store an get the fabric used for making carpets its a thicker cotton that has bigger gaps that lets the moss grow out faster was not expensive 5bucks for 3x3' or so. thats just my thoughts ...
