Temp got to 92 today in tank! Hope it was the heater...

I went to do tank maintenance today and it felt like a sauna in there. 92 degrees!

The only thing it possibly could be... i think... is the heater. So I just replaced it and am going to see how things are in a couple days.

Only saw 1 cory dead, but had 2 discus die over the past couple days. I am surprised they didnt enjoy the 92 degrees though.

The temp could have been even higher than 92F over some time. Discus don't die at 92F. Some treatment like metronidazole for discus uses 92-94F.

no, fish dont die at those temperatures, but oxygen levels deplete very quickly, and CO2 builds up. Alot. Especially when you dont have a PH controller.

Test for CO2 levels, because it can really become an issue at such temps.

co2 had jumped up to ~35ppm at the 92 degree point.

The temp is back down to 82 right now (with a new heater... Ebo this time), and the co2 has dropped to 18ppm. Pretty intense that it dropped by 1/2.

I was pretty sure the temp wouldnt have killed the Discus necessarily, but I am sure the variability of the temp didnt help things out.

yes, it was CO2 as i thought. At 82 degrees, 35 ppm is no problem, because there's lots of O2 in the tank. At 92 degrees, O2 levels are much lower (i dont know the exact formula), so...

sorry about your discus
