10g betta tank filter

Im setting up a 10g tank for a single betta fish. I'll probably put a java fern in too. Do I need a filter? I feel like it wont get too dirty and the betta will enjoy the calmer water.

You don't need one, but you will need to change the water every other day. Betta's will constantly build bubble nests resulting in a nasty film over the water, or at least that has been my experience. I have a wally world 5-15 filter on my 5 gallon Betta tank, to slow the flow I just lift the tube a little or stick some porous sponge in the tube. Alternatively you could get a cheapo sponge/airstone type filter. Or even some bushy floating plants to slow the flow.

So, can it be done, absolutely yes. Would I recommend it, no, not in the long run.

Oh it wil get dirty over a period of time. If you prefer calmer waters, get a sponge or box filter. It won't be too strong for the betta fish. Daximus the film over the water is the oil from the food your feeding it, that's what i've been told.

I have a HOB on my Finnex 4gl for my Betta. The trick is to create a calm area.

I put the HOB in the right rear corner facing the ft. glass. the other 3/4 is rather calm. I have a Cholla between the filter & the kept 1/3 of the tank. I have lists of water lets in that 1/3 . He likes to hang out under the water lettus. But, he seems to enjoy chasing the flakes in the stream of the HOB.

The water movement is good for the plants, and circulating heat.
