7 gallon: am I overstocking?!

I have a 7 gallon minibow heavily planted with hagen natural CO2, 32w PC lights and weekly flourish dosing. right now it only has one male betta, and hes been doing fine for about 3 weeks. Is it OK if I add a group of 6 pygmy cories to scavenge on the bottom or is this overstocking? also if I add ghost shrimp (pretty big ones) will the cories bother them?

Dunno if the cories will mess with the shrimp, but another consideration is, in a heavily planted tank, how much open room will the cories have to roam and dig in the substrate? Also, how closely are you watching the CO2 levels? In a tank this small you could quicky see trouble. How's your alkalinity?

Should be fine in the tank size, just stay on top of the weekly water change, and make sure to keep the co2 in check.

I have about 3 pygmy's in my 6 gal tank with 4 white clouds, 2 amano shrimp, and 1 Betta and they are doing well.

can't resist not posting a pic because they are so cute.

can get a feel to how tiny they are ( almost 1" )... In the corner of a 6 gal tank.

The cory's will have no problem with the shrimps and vice versa.

If you check out pygmy cory's profile you'll find it say's min. tank size 20 gallons for them to roam in and with a group of 6 I don't think they'll really have that much room to venture out in in your tank. That said you're probably looking a 1" of fish per gallon so you'd really be pushing the boundries of the tank, but if you have a strict WC regime then you might just be okay. However I would suggest a max of 2 and pushing it 3 corys on ground keeping duty, a shrimp or two and an otto on algae duty.

With that size tank you're never really going to be able to keep a happy skool of fish, a slight increase in size and I'm sure it'd make you and your prospective fish very happy.

Let me know what happens!!
