Calling water department in an hour...what to ask?

Calling to find out the hardness of my city's water. Anything else I should ask?

Most cities post a water quality report online. As for the hardness, or anything, just get a test kit and test it. The problem with city water, is it changes. During the summer months when algae may be an issue, they dose other things to kill it, in the winter, they may less of something, etc, so it can always be different. Also if you're anywhere near farming, summer months are going to see more runoff from farms, etc.

No online report...It's a miracle my town even has a website. Lots of farms along the river and that is where our water comes from. I live in rural West Virginia.

You could ask how their day is... or if they get any respect around the office.

Just pick up a water test kit. Its going to tell you everything you need to know for keeping an aquarium.
