lighting chart

According to the chart, for my 60gal tank 2 t5ho lights 25" above the substrate will put me right at the edge of high light. I want to be in the med light range. 1 t5ho is low light so I am stuck in between. The other option I have is running 2 compact flouresants which puts me right in the middle of med light but everyone says to run t5s. Am I reading this right?

One other question, if I buy a dual t5ho fixture will it work with only 1 bulb if 2 is too bright?

most lamp fixtures that hold 2 lights typically are run off of one ballast which will force you to use both lights or none at all. Your light may be different but I doubt it.

By raising the lights higher than 25" off the substrate you can achieve more even light distribution and a lower PAR on your desired areas. Also in the lighting section of your local hardware store their should be a couple different products (like egg crate) to help filter light, they come in sheets to be cut down, people use them to cover their t8s in offices all the time. also you can paint your reflectors black or remove them from the lamp fixture
