Holmium(III) oxide but what I think you mean is H2o2 which is Hydrogen Peroxide. People like myself us H2o2 to treat for some varieties of Algae. Spot treating with H2o2 kills it.

That might be my fault, I had a dyslexic moment on my own Algae thread.

OK. That explains my confusion.

Question... Can I treat my flourite with peroxide to get rid of algae. Want to sterilize my whole system. Have black bushy stuff that sneaked in with a new plant... Scared flourite will disintegrate or absorb the stuff and poison the tank later.

No fish/invertebrates, but would like to introduce some after about 1 month. I was also thinking of using algaway 5.4.

With no fish or other fauna in the tank you can use Excel at 10X dosage to kill BBA. Or drain off most of the tank water and dose just the substrate and remaining water with an overdose of Excel. Hydrogen peroxide is certainly a lot cheaper, and not nearly as toxic either.

h2o2 breaks down into water rather quickly, especially when exposed to light.

I was going to say, since nothing is in the tank I would H2o2 that thing along with high doses of Excel...AS LONG as there isnt anything in the tank excel kills.

Like i posted , go read that link.

Nothing against the fine folks that make Excel or the legions that swear by it. Try the H2O2 1st, if it doesn't work for you you can always go to Excel.

I think it's wise to start with the "greenest" approach....before you get the hammer.
