Etiquette question

I belong to a couple of fish tank sites like this with forums and was wondering if it was bad form to link things from one forum to another. I've only been using forums for a short period and didn't know if it was taboo to interbreed sites so to say. Thanks.

Some sites may not allow the linking to another forum because they say "it takes away from the sites traffic and directs that traffic to another site", and then some sites allow it. It's just based on each sites general rules and regulations.

I am pretty sure it is against this site's policy.

I link to different forums like aquatic plant central to share a good example or great tank. Doing it every so often is no big deal.

People often use links here, especially when referencing research or experiments. I've never seen anyone get in trouble for it. Check out all the links in this thread: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ot...sites-you.html

What joetaff said is exactly what I'm talking about. Ok I guess no biggie. The free flow of information right?

If your contributing to a topic or post and that requires linking to something you saw on another forum, then I don't see why anyone would object. Some forums do have nazi like moderators though. lol I don't think that applies here though.

linking is cool as long as it's not spammish.

On most sites info exchange is fine. Blatant comercial promotion is always in very poor taste. It is especially bad on sponcered site.
