avoid pH swings after water changes?

Not really a planted tank question-even though I will probably try some java fern in this tank--Im exploring ideas for an empty tank I have ( 40 breeder ) and I am considering some high pH critters ( shellies and other Lake Tang. cichlids ) Ive found that they prefer hard water with a pH 8.0+. My tap is around 7 and very soft ( 2-3 GH and KH ) I know I can add crushed coral to the tank to create a habitat for them, but what is the best way to avoid big swings in pH when doing water changes? I dont really have a way to store the water with more crushed coral before adding it to the tank--any ideas? Am I best served to just find another option for the tank that requires water like I have, or will the temporary change in pH be Ok for the fishes?

Find out the water parameters of the fish where you are buying them from. I would bet that they don't match their natural habitat. Do a crush coral substrate and do smaller water changes if you'd like to keep the ph from changing to much.
