My platys

3 weeks ago, on Easter Sunday I purchased 12 Sunset Platy's from the LFS. I'm pretty sure that they are all females. Pretty sure because they won't stay still long enough to sex them When feeding time rolls around, they seem to be a little pigish on the food, eating not only the flake, but the sinking pellets, catfish pellets and even the algae waffers.

I noticed them getting rounder and rounder, did some research, looked at pregnant photo's of platys, etc... I just figured they were eating too much and have tried to cut down on the amount fed. I've been worried about the other fish not getting enough because they eat so quick and well.

On a side note, since my Bolivian Rams don't seem interested in them... what should I feed the fry? What do you guys do when you end up with "extra" fish you weren't expecting?

I know my two year old daughter will be thrilled

Also, most livebearers can store sperm in their bodies for a few months and can get pregnant more than once from one fertilization.

I've tried to sex them, but with 12 running around the tank, it's really difficult to keep track of which is which... and when they are swimming, the fin pulls up alongside the body making it next to impossible to tell. And they are active little gals/guys

Yep, they are active but not at night....

keep the lights to a minimum for a while and then illuminate them with a flashlight.
