How much maintenance time for a well balanced tank?

I am a lazy lazy person... which usually inspires me into doing things (not oxymoronic, I assure you).

I set up the tank to perform its daily operations without me. EI dosed and pressurized co2 and lights and food all on timers.

I have to do my weekly water change (its an apt building.. no auto changer for me).

and.....MAINTENANCE! ugh. trimming plants, dead leaves...keeping driftwood clear of algae. keeping mulm down, cleaning glass, filter...

little aquascape anal retentiveness... keeping plants ascetically arranged...

Time/Effort spent over a month:

Wk1 - 20 min, water change, clean glass

Wk2 - 30 min, water change, clean glass, quick trim and reset for various out of place stems, clean intake/outtake pipes

Wk3 - 20 min water change, clean glass

Wk4 - 2 hrs, Add magnum HOT and get rid of mulm build up, Take out full stem section (or 2..or 3) and trim down. Clean glass very well (corners and near substrate), trim down fissidens, scrub driftwood to clean off algae, trim leaves, clean filter pipes again...and water change!

Thats my month for the last few months....Does that sound about right? Or do most of you get to avoid what is in my case, week four? I find that around once a month, The tank needs that 2hr maintenance attention....and me no likey work.

I have 5 tanks and spend about 1.5 hours a week on them(460 gal), so yes.

I have a 30g low tech planted tank with just java fern and moss, I haven't done a water change in over a year. The plants clean the water so well I have to add nitrates (by over feeding).

I have zero problems with algae (never scrubbed the glass) I think the otto's must clean it or it just doesn't grow. I like the jungle look so I let the plants grow where ever the choose so I never rearrange.

The water is crystal clear.

I only keep shrimps, otto's, cardinals and rummy's in there which cuts down on waste.

It's unbelievably self sufficient, I just have to do top ups, feeding etc.

But you seem to have a high tech which does involve all the maintenance you are doing.

almost no time at all... it's a 10 gallon tank, so cleaning the glass takes no time at all (i usually only do the front anyway...), water change is done with a bucket... fill bucket with water.... empty... fill bucket with new water... treat... pour in... done...

i can't really vacuum the gravel because i have carpet plants, but every once in a while i will turkey baste up the crud i can reach.

ferts takes literally a minute too. trimming plants in not done on a regular basis as i like them a little wild. most don't even need to be trimmed anyway.

honestly i would say i spend about 30 min a week on tank maintenance... pretty good. the tank almost runs itself.

I take about 2 hours total a week, my 36 gal takes the most time, I have quite a few fast growing plants in there lol, and they require weekly or twice a week trimming.

20g planted shrimp tank no C02 - change 5g of water a month so 5 minutes.
46g planted I change 30% of the water ever 2 - 3 months and do a light algae scrub from the glass, but even that is less and less frequent. Has C02 so lots of plant growth. Quick dose of ferts once a week when I remember.
75g I just got so I'll be setting it up and picking things up over the next week and breaking down my 29g. Goal is a water change a year. C02 also. Dose ferts as I remember.
I'm big on low maintenance.
