stands, racks and weight

Stands vs racks?

How much weight/what size tank would you feel comfortable putting upstairs?

55g standard on a stand with sump? Bigger, smaller? many 10g on a rack, 2 per shelf? Assuming no changes to building structure. I try to place at corner where two structural walls meet, but this may not be possible in all rooms.

Wherever you place them, make sure they span across the beams, ie perpendicular to them, not parallel. That's assuming it's a timber suspended floor? You should be able to get away with a fair ammount tbh, after all, if you can have a few people standing on one of those beams, spanning a tank over several of them is less load.

Try and find out what spacing the joists are at and, if possible, what thickness they are. Is it a timber frame house, or masonry? etc.

A corner won't have much more support tbh, as long as you're spanning in the correct direction.
