Need Help with lighting

Hi,

I'm relatively new to planted tanks so I have a few questions.

I have a 29 gallon with 2 T-8 life grow bulbs which are each 17-20 watts(depends where you read about them)

I have mostly low light plants I think - Java ferns, anubia, swords, moss ball, anacharis, and valiserina?
substrated is 1-2mm gravel with laterite, I dose with liquid fertilizer at water changes and use sea chem substate fertilizer
Plants are doing ok (they are green) but not really growing

SO the LFS said I should move to the 65w compact flourescent. Would this be a good move - I DO NOT want to have to do CO2 (no time and too cheap). Will this light be really bright compared to what I have now, and will it harm my fish (tetras)

So what would be my best bet stay as is, move the to compact flourescent or go with a T5 lighting system.

Any help greatly appreciated

Amy

Check out this:

I think a CFL would be approximately equal to a T5NO or a PC.

I'd go with T5 lighting, but I'm really new into this, so don't mind me too much.

Thanks,

According to that chart a compact flourescent isn't going to change much anyway.
I always see the T5 bulbs in fixtures that are above the tank on little feet, and over open tanks.

Do you know if you can put them right on a glass top, I have 3 cats so open top is not an option

More light will not equal more growth, more light plus more ferts may get you a little growth, but I think CO2 is going to be the limiting factor. Some root tabs or substate ferts may help will some of your plants like the swords.
