QT tank questions.

I'm setting up a quarantine tank and I always wondered If you needed a light for it, I plan on using a desk lamp to monitor behavior and waste etc..

And i heard fish get more calm in the dark..

ps. I plan on putting my QT tank under my 90 gallon stand, bad idea?

Also I was reading this article on quarantine tanks and the dude was like "It's necessary to keep your main tank & QT tank in different rooms" Is that true?

I dont think it is necessary to keep the in different rooms. The only two reasons I could see that is maybe something is airborne and can get into the tank. Or keeping it in two rooms will reduce the risk of mixing tools to contaminate the QT tanks. But other than that I dont believe it is necessary and I have kept QT tanks in my room for a long time.

Also a strong light is not that necessary. The only reason you would need any decent light is if you keep some live plants which I think you may. If that is the case a light from walmart with a cfl bulb would work just fine with low light plants. Just something simple like java fern or anubias nana would do great. Also I would keep the light cycle the same as the original tank to reduce a lot of stress on the fish.

I guess if you want to maintain the tank while sitting on the floor it will be fine. I don't think the fish will care.

I wonder if a little four dollar fan would be good, to keep moisture from building up. I've thought about doing the same with my qt tank.

I've never heard about keeping them in a different room.

As for lighting I'm not keeping any plants or anything.. bare bottom tank with heater/filter.

I guess I'll end up sticking the 10gal on the bottom.. and yea I won't ever mix equipment.
