Needle spikerush.. :(

Wondering what are the minimal requirements for this plant..

I have some planted in my midground..
I am injecting co2, black onyx sand and dosing iron and liquid ferts accordingly..

They are all a brownish color, and were green when I got them..

Also, they don't get very tall do they?

Not sure what you mean by needle spikerush. Two species fall into this name.
Eleocharis acicularis (height- maybe a foot?)

and

Eleocharis parvula (height- 4-5 inches)

Check if it's brown algae or the plants might have grown out of the water (emersed)... When put under water, the old growth might die off.

How big is your tank and what lights?

it is a 10g.
I have a 3 watt (total) led unit equals to my understanding 10w of fluorescent, and a 15w fluorescent.
pressurized co2
liquid ferts + betta and shrimp waste
my watersprite appears to grow an inch a day!!

they are just turning brown...
I want to keep them for now, but they may get too large for the "look" i was going for..

any suggestions to why they are turning brownish/yellow? and what would be a potential replacement witht the same look, but miniature..

Probably a combo of low CO2 and nutrients. Try upping the co2 and putting some root tabs under the spikerush.

Ill try upping the co2..

I am waiting on a new diffuser to come, hopefully it will work better than my dome method.

it was likely grown emersed. give it some time and hopefully some submersed leaves will appear. keep the co2 levels higher during this time as well to help it along

Actually, it could be the light too.... For a 10G tank, 25 watts of t-8 fluorescent is ideal.
