Crypts melting...should I cut them back?

I have a patch of small crypts (Wendtii??) I planted about a month ago that are melting. I am going out of town for five days starting tomorrow for work, and don't want to leave them rotting in my tank 'unsupervised.' Is it ok to just cut back all the melting leaves?

Thanks in advance!

I just cut some back that had algea covered leaves and they all have new leaves comming in, but these are very old with a good root system. I still think it would be better for you to remove the rotting leaves than leave them in the tank, crypts and vals are kinda strange in the fact that new plants may melt when introduced to a new tank but they almost always will come back, good luck.

Leaves can't regenerate from damage, so if they're already rotting. cut them off.

All of my crypes melt their outside leaves when they get new growth. Sometimes I pick them off since they are not that pretty, but I also leave a lot of th em and it never really hurts anything to leave them in. Just crypts being crypts. Most of the time my shrimp will eat the leaves as they are melting. Pulling them is probably a good thing though..

All damaged leaves must be removed immediately to promote healthy new leaves!

Yeap.. I'm always taking off dead or rotting plants.. especially with my crypt wenditii *spell check*.

When I received my crypts all of the new leaves were melting.. within weeks they started to growing new ones.. I guess they melt when introduced to a new tank.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I cut all the dead leaves off and was pleasantly surprised that quite a few healthy leaves remain.
