DUMBEST question of the year! :) I have to ask

I was thinking about getting a 20 gallon experiment tank set up.
I wanna use miracle grow organic dirt.... maybe 3" lighting would be a 250 watt halide bulb placed about 2 feet above the tank. an aquaclear filter.

here is where the dumb question comes in... can I use miracle grow fertilizer?
I will have no fish.. just plants....

You want to put 250 watts over a 20 gallon tank and wondering about Miracle grow fertilizer being the issue is your question? LOL.

I have to ask, what are you growing?

Is this serious, or joking in response to gate keeper?

250W is too much light, even 2 feet over a tank...

you might as well put co2 into the roof on ur bubble count.

No need for the Miracle Gro liquid ferts if you use the soil, like Gatekeeper said.

alright, I wouldn't use that just because it's probably not as pure as the dry ferts that are sold by people like GLA, aquarium fertilizer, etc.

It also may not be in the ratios needed for planted tanks...it could be like 12-12-10, which isn't necessarily good.

You could probably use the 250W halide, but you would probably be safer with a 100-150W halide 2 feet off the water, if i had to guess.

no CO2?

It's a waste of lights and ferts if you don't have CO2 and you'll likely grow algae more than plants.

This. You are about to learn the lesson of "too" much light. And you are going to learn it big. But whats the worst thing that can happen? Try it and show us how it turns out.

Check out the bottom of Gatekeeper's sig and then look at his post. Notice the correlation; he has a good point, too. But good luck nevertheless. And you're gonna need it. Bigtime LOL
