Exclamation Make me a believer. Post your ATO failure war stories.

Over in equipment I posted some thoughts on a very simple low tech ATO fail-safe setup (gravity). I was indirectly ribbing all the hyper-engineered cadillac fusion reactor complexity fail-safe designs I'm seeing. My point was that I (like some others) ran a single used $8 float fed from a raised RO reservoir for like 5 presidential terms. Rock solid. Just thwack it once and a while to ensure its good to go.

So why all the fail-safe fuss? Convince me that this isn't a belief in unicorns. I realize a failure may have serious consequences but so would an asteroid strike or a global pandemic.

Lets hear about these mythical ATO failures and subsequent failed marriages. Tell me your ATO war stories. If they exist......

ATO war stories and failures? For a few years I ran a cheap float switch spliced directly into a 120v extension cord powering a pump. The worst thing I can think of is when the reservoir ran out of water in the middle of the night and the pump would turn out - loud as hell. It COULD have been MUCH worse though. So I count myself lucky and lesson learned.

I replaced it with a better DIY version that uses an automotive relay and it's been working great ever since.
