Lowering water volume to stimulate emergent growth in new tank?
I am getting a new planted tank with a soil substrate started right now and have been noticing some ammonia about 2 weeks in (.75ppm at the max). I have been doing water changes, but am hoping that my plant growth will also help remove some of the ammonia as my tank cycles. The problem is my submerged plants are growing a little slowly and none are large enough to get above to water stimulating faster emergent growth. So I thought I would just lower the water volume for now as it cycles allowing them to grow emergently (see attached picture). I still plan on doing water changes every 2 days or so as it cycles.
Just thought it would check with you all to see what you think - I feel like I might be missing a reason why this is a bad idea?
let me know what you think!
