So I'm finally in the market for some upgrades! Specifically, I'm wanting to add lights and then plants. Then once I get the hang of that, I'll look at more plants and more fishies.

Quick and dirty: 10gal stock tank, fluorite substrate, deadwood, HoB filter, cheap cover/lights, 1 fancy betta.

I tried introducing a mystery snail and Oto but something introduced ick and the betta developed severe fin rot. Betta is healthy again, others didnt make it.

So now I wanna add a new light and some plants for hiding places before trying more fish again

Im looking at this light: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KPPPWX9...-20&th=1&psc=1

What are some cover options once I change lights? I do have cats so it cant be completely uncovered. The HoB filter also adds some trouble.

Obligatory FTS

I would look into a glass canopy made by the same manufacturer of your aquarium. I've used Finnex lights and they grow plants and generally last a good while. Decent quality for the $, though soldering was sloppy on mine. Not sure what is better at that price point, if anything.

Nothing good happens fast in an ecosystem.
