Can my TV stand support a 20 gallon tank?

Hi all,

I have a TV stand that I'm using as aquarium stand for 5 years, supporting a 10 gallon tank. I want to upgrade to a 20 gallon, and wonder if the same stand could support twice of the current weight.

Please see below for actual pictures. The back panel is made of cardboard, the rest is made out of composite wood I believe.

Your help is appreciated, thank you!

I don't think anyone will be able to give you any guarantees over the net. A 20g will be about 225pds according to google. Find someone or something that won't leak all over and destroy things to test it out would be my recommendation. But you're going to have to make the call on it ultimately one way or the other.

45g fluval bowfront tank, plant 2.0 light, 2 x 206 canister filters, 5lb co2 art pro se
10g quarantine tank

Hi @Greenpapa

I have a 20 gallon sitting on a very similar TV stand, it has been there since February, 2013 with no issues whatsoever.

Your "TV" stand looks no different then the stands sold for ensembles (tank, lights, stand).
(Quite like the stand under my 60g). I'd think it would hold a 20g just fine.

Tank On, Mike-
60g Marineland Community, Finnex Planted+ 24/7, Silica (pool filter) sand.
10g, 29g, & 37g fry grow out tanks, 110g stock tank.

What came first, the chicken or the egg. It was the egg, but not the egg from a chicken.

Thank you guys, I'm so happy I don't need to buy a new stand!

Aquatroy, what additional bracing do you suggest?
