Beetle question

Hello everyone,
Hubby and I live in a cold climate, and decided to create a “Native” terrarium before winter came and subdued everything green and living. In a huge jar we made a false bottom out of pebbles and screen, scooped some dirt from a nearby forest and added moss, plants, and dead or rotting wood. Two weeks later, there are many critters to be noticed, including: snails, earthworms, various other crawlies, ONE glimpse of a springtail, and a darkling beetle. The beetle seems to be hibernating — he’s sat in the same spot underground against the glass, and I only know he’s still alive because I’ve seen him move a few times (and also is not decomposing).
My concern is that the terrarium is too moist for the beetle to hibernate without being killed by fungus. I’m wondering if it would be better to gently excavate him, and place him in slightly drier substrate?
This is my first terrarium and I’m not sure how much risk the fungus actually poses to the beetle. The fungus is generalized throughout the tank and can only be seen on close inspection. It’s not overly moist — just enough to keep the moss, plants and snails happy.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and for your thoughts.
