Plant Database?

I hear programs like Microsoft Office and Open Office can be used to create databases in which you can categorize things in any way that you'd like.

For instance, once finished, you'd be able to click on "Low Light" to find all the plants that only do well in low light, etc, so I wondering if anything of the sort exists already, or if doesn't, how would you all like to have the plants categorized? Here's what I think...

Region of Country

Lighting required...

Low to Medium
Medium to High
Low to High (does well in any light)

Of course, many plants would end up being found in many of the categories, like Water Wisteria, would probably be found in Low to High lighting, Floating, Submerged, Emersed, Bog, and Indian Subcontinent.

For all I know, which is not much, some of you would even like to include pH, CO2, iron, perhaps even amount of water movement.

This would be quite a project no amateur should take on. Is there really nothing of the sort already in existence? Should we ban together to fund such an endeavor? Gofundme, lol? Let's make a database!

It is far from a complete source, but I typically make the Tropica website my first stop. They have good documentation on all of the plants they sell, including nice photos. I have found that they have almost all of the most common plants.

I have grown to love excel spreadsheets. You can script them to show certain things out of a list and sort by columns etc (and a heck of a lit more I am sure).
I used to use it to sort african violets by description, hybridizer, age etc. Til just watering them became enough work 😛
