Do all of PetSmart's plants get grown emersed before purchase?
I am wondering if PetSmart's plants get grown emersed before they are sold. My Temple Compacta plants started off with roundish leaves that were a dark green. They now sport leaves that are a good three inches long and are still growing. That got me thinking that if my two Anubias Frazeri plants started off emersed that would explain why the big time algae is on old growth leaves. My Java ferns had algae like crazy but it did not last long. They have a little algae left but it is getting better every day and I see some signs of growth, especially on one plant. I know the algae was and is due in part to not having a heavily planted tank though I am working on it. I have a dirted tank, with three inches of soil on one side tapering down to an inch on the other side. I am sure that is also a contributor. Even so the algae is indeed improving. I only have the lights on (not counting moonlight) for 6 to 7 hours a day. I have 8 tiger barbs and 4 platies. The tank is 45 gallons. The fish get fed some flake usually once to perhaps twice daily. They also eat some algae along with my "pest" snails. I know I got a little off the topic at hand but if all of PetSmart's plants are grown emersed initially I will know to expect some melting and algae on old growth. Thank you.
