When to add Clean Up Crew

Tried to find this answer in past threads, but am still a little confused about when to add CC.

I'm still early in the new tank launch -- just two weeks into planting of HC. I've got high CO2 lvels to help the immersed HC transition, so no livestock yet. No algae issues to date, but trying to be proactive and plan ahead for adding SAE's, shrimp, snails, etc.

Do I add them only after algae is visible or do I stock when I introduce fish as a preemptive strike and supplemental feed algae wafers?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I waited a while until I added the SAEs, if there is nothing for them to eat, you will have some skinny SAEs.
Shrimp can be fed, they seem to eat just about anything.
But there is a bio film that starts to grow on things that those guys need, and that is probably not there yet.
You are supposed to have driftwood for a sucker mouth catfish and some algae also.
That's my take on it, but maybe someone else with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

You don't add them unless you need them or want them. Tons of people never add them.

If your tank is newly cycled? You probably don't need them. But if you want them? Go for it.

Ok. I do want shrimp, but the rest of the crew will be added only as needed then. Good to know it’s ok to just be reactionary. Going through fishless cycle now. I plan on just focusing on flora for a while, so should be able to get tank stabilized before adding some cherry shrimp, then fish. Thanks!
