Breaking surface tension and my new scape

So I’ve finally setup my discus tank and happy with the scape. I may add a few more plants but I like the simplicity... anyway I’m lacking movement on the top and unsure which way to go, I have an external filter in there but am tempted to add a canister filter to break some of the surface tension as there is no movement on top what other options have I got to break the surface tension?

What filter do you have and what size tank?

Are you getting juvenile discus, sub-adults, or adults?

What kind of filter do you have right now? Type and GPH?

Aqua one oceallris 850 - 850litres per hour

Apologies when I say adding an extra canister filter I mean an internal one, something like one of the fluval u series or similar, not another external...

From my calculations it looks like the turnover is less than 4 times per hour- with cichlids you would want- at minimum- 7 x per hour. Discus can take the 7X turnoer rate as you do more water changes with discus than other cichlids. My geophagus and other eartheaters I have an even higher turnover rate- 10X per hour- in my 180 gallon.

I would either get a larger more powerful filter to get better GPH, add another canister to supplement one already have, or add an HOB to canister already have.

If you want extra filtration + circulation then get a filter
If you want just circulation get a wavemaker, there are a variety of brands and types ranging from very cheap to high end
