Let's play: Brilliant or Buffoon.

Hi all,

I am about 2 1/2 weeks into a dry start method and the HC is grown nicely but there are a few yellow/brown leaves that have formed and I am concerned that is due to lack of moisture and or not enough air exchange (what else could it be?). At any rate, I wanted to try and address these and I wanted to see if this was a good idea, or a really dumb one. What do you think:

I bought one of those ultrasonic misters off of Amazon and put it in a bowl of water and left part of the cling wrap open. I figure 100% humidity and good air exchange.

So... Brilliant or Buffoon?

The down side I see is potentially less light getting to the HC, but I think this is minimal.

If it works you'll be briliant, if it fails, you'll be a buffoon. <hehe>
Maybe just need the mister on a timer for ample mist with reduced fog?

Tank On, Mike-
60g Marineland Community, Finnex Planted+ 24/7, Silica (pool filter) sand.
10g, 29g, & 37g fry grow out tanks, 110g stock tank.

What came first, the chicken or the egg. It was the egg, but not the egg of a chicken.

Cool idea. FWIW in emersed setups, which is basically a DSM that keeps on going, the random yellow/ brown leaf is pretty common. The growth is faster so the death is faster too. As long as they're few and far between I wouldn't be concerned with the occasional dead leaf

92% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

HAHA! Fair

I don't have a timer that can turn on/off more than 7 times a day (it's digital) but I have since put a cover most of the way on the Tupperware container reducing the fog. I have also added a bottle cap on a straw held with zip ties and it was shooting water every where. Lowering or raising the bottle cap essentially lets me raise or reduce the amount of humidity.

(MacGyver eat your heart out. Also, the white stuff is super glue. It is not needed, FYI)

That's actually really helpful and makes me feel better about the little bit of yellowing and die off: it was quite concerned. Thank you.

Quick update: I've added a cut off bottle topper in addition to the bottle cap to further throttle the mist. A timer here, really would be the best option. At any rate 24 hours and everything is nice a dewy!

I will continue the process on my tank journal here.
