You can estimate how much sodium / potassium gets added by a water softener based on the difference in gH: How Much Sodium Does a Water Softener Put into Your Water? ?[censored]Pure Water Products, LLC, is one example.

I just went through this whole bit with our full house water softener with potassium chloride and I now only use hard water in the tanks.

@Surf - so the purpose of using the softened water would be to remove the copper?

@OVT - why did you switch to the hard water?

It reduces copper and many other minerals that might be interfering with plant growth.
