55 gallon vs 20 gallon for 5 yoyo loaches

just looking for a few opinions on a tank I plan to setup.
I'm thinking about setting up either a heavily planted 55 gallon or 20 gallon tank for my 5 yoyo loaches. they are about 1.25" at the moment and they live in my community tank. obviously, a 55 gallon would be better but I'm having a hard time deciding if its really needed. would the 20 be plenty large enough for 5 yoyo loaches?
another question, which tank mates would be good for yoyo loaches in a 20 gallon tank? what tank mates would be good for yoyo loaches in a 55 gallon tank?
any input would be greatly appreciated.

75 gallon heavily planted tropical tank
15 zebra danios
15 glowlight tetras
6 cory cats

Did you know that YoYo Loaches ( Botia almorhae) get 6 inches long? Or is this not the variety you are speaking of? Just to be sure.
Ive never had them before so cannot give a personal experience evaluation, but I have seen them in LFS and have always been taken at the active nature of this fish. 5 really active fish that get 6 inches long in a 20 gallon tank just appears to me ( again, not having any experience with them) as a very poor environment.
The 55 gallon for 5 YoYo loaches is the better option, assuming we are speaking of same species.

Here are some links that will give you a more informed opinion:

Barbs ( in which there are many species) would work ( For example: Tiger Barbs (Systomus tetrazona), Odessa Barb (Pethia padamya), --- as long as kept in sufficient numbers) for the upper half of aquarium in 55 gallon.

180 g. low tech w/ wild South American cichlids, corydoras eques, and African Congo riverine tetras.
60 g. low tech w/ F1 Alenquer pair /Stendker "Tefe" discus and wild Altum Angels
30 g. low tech w/ Wild Tucano tetras
30 g. low-tech African Biotope
