Diatoms and Filter Media Concern for Cycling New Tank

Hi All, this is my first post although I've gained a lot of knowledge from many posts I've read.

My question is this, I'm setting up a new 65g planted tank and would like to use some seachem matrix from my 75g. My problem is that the 75g has diatoms and I'm not sure if I use filter media from that tank it will cause a problem in the new tank. Do they live in the filter media too? I cannot find any info on this.

I could also buy safe start or doctor Tim's but I don't think it will be as good.

Thanks to all who reply!

Johnny
