The 'balanced' aquarium?

Hi all! I am currently setting up an aquarium with no electricity whatsoever. Here is an article on it; https://books.google.com/books?id=IE...plants&f=false

Basically, it is going to use bare root houseplants and aquarium plants, lit by a northern window, to remove fish wastes and produce oxygen. I will be veering slightly from the article's recommendations and doing at least occasional water changes (the exact frequency I am not sure of...might just stick with weekly). What do you guys think about it? Thanks

Can't view the article so can't say what I think of it specifically.

How large is the tank? I don't see this going well at all to be honest.

Here’s a link to someone’s project they set up that I was watching on YouTube recently.
Dirted with heater and light, no filter etc.
There’s a progression of updated videos on his page

It is a 10 gallon. Any particular reason you don't see this going well? I was going to simply feed the tank and perform weekly water changes for a month to see if ammonia drops to safe levels. If they do not, I will add a sponge filter.
