I understand where you are coming from. I just think that sometimes we make it overly complex for new people to get started. Setting up a tank and watching for the "ammonia spike?" "Fishless cycling?" Certainly not bad advice, but overkill, IMHO. I've seen posts in which people have almost given up the hobby becuase they couldn't get their tanks to "cycle" after a month!

Just add water, a lot of fast growing plants, enough light, and a few fish and the tank is off and running. Pretty easy, I think. Easier than trying to figure out the proper dosage of ammonia.

After taking all this into consideration, I think im going to go in between, im not going to do a fishless cycle, but when I get my 2 dwarf puffers thursday im going to add Bio-Spira 15 mins before while the fish are floating adjusting to the temp. I think I'll be alright. What im really worried about now is that the lighting I have, some people tell me cause some of my plants like java moss and fern to to turn to algae or something, or algae will overcome my tank if I dont run CO2....this is bothering me, but im gonna give it all a go, I dont care if my plants dont grow fast or at all, im only worried about them dying/turning into algae or whatever....

I second Rex Grigg...

I have also used Bio Spira and it works great...it can get spendy in a bigger tank....my LFS sells it at $12....I got 3 bags for my 75....the LFS gave me one bag for free....I believe one bag is good for 30 gallons...

is this how much everyone buys it...or is my LFS just a rip off ?

It is a 7 gallon tank with a 32w PC retrofit, bulb is half 10,000K half 6,700K. Rex Grigg told me its considered minimum light so I dont need CO2 unless i want more growth later on. Some others tell me my tank will be full of algae if I dont run CO2 because its very high lighting
