Successful strategies for 1+ month vacations?
I've seen a fair amount of discussion of shorter absences but am curious if anyone running high-tech setups has any firsthand advice on more protracted time away.
Most of the advice for vacations in the 2 week range seems to favor tapering back lighting and shutting off both CO2 and dosing, with the aim of minimizing growth, but I am wondering if that's a sustainable approach beyond that length of time. (I am manually dosing NilocG's thrive but have a Jebao 4-channel on the way and in principle could set up autodosing. Likewise no issue with keeping up CO2, either as normal or tapered-back. Primary issue is that water changes are not realistic.) Light stocking with biofilm-eating invertebrates, no fish; the plants in question are mostly filmy ferns and aroids but also a few more finnicky things like Tonina and Syngonanthus. Would be satisfied with basic survival and staving off catastrophic algal takeover.
