Crypts and UGF

I have installed a UGF in my 75cm tank. It has over 100 Crypts plants and all growing strong from a slow start.

I am also running an Eheim Pro11 2026

My question is how much air should I have going through the UGF.

At the moment the Rena pump is moving at a slow rate.

The substrate is a 2-6mm natural river stone with a 30% mix of Fluorite.

air in your ugf?

i like ugfs but i'm not sure that i would plant crypts above one, their roots are sure to get tangled in it

Hiya, Keith! Fancy bumping into you here!

I agree that the Crypt roots most likely will sooner or later completely clog up a UGF unless you put something down to keep the roots out like a few layers of landscaping fabric or something along those lines.

At a guess I would say less than 20% of the tank is planted with crypts.
Here is a photo of the tank.
I finished setting it up Jan 23rd 2011
The Crypts are at the front and behind part of the DW.
It will take several months for the crypts to grow to their full size.
