Importing plants questions

For those of you guys and gal that have import/order plants from oversea, who is the best to order from? I'm in need of some mini-bolbitis and found some on [Ebay Link Removed] What do I need to look for, etc. Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

Just 1 more I promise......

Only order if you are willing to have your package seized by US Customs and don't mind losing any money you spent. Other wise find a reputable importer who can get your stuff past Customs or locate a fellow hobbyists here in the States.

There are plenty of in-country plant retailers. Stay away from Ebay for anything live. Besides, if they're selling on Ebay, chances are it's nothing special, and it'll take an usafe amount of time to get to you, even if it makes it through customs okay. If you're looking for deals, you might have better success with Aquabid. Though your first stop should be the SnS forum right here.

There is a chance that it may be captured by customs, but if you request from the seller that nothing that would indicate something is alive inside on the packaging, you are probably going to be fine.

It is illegal to import plants and animals without having them inspected by Customs. There are MANY good reasons for this (e.g. the Mediterranean Fruit Fly infestation in California). There are also VERY large fines associated with being caught. And while Customs usually just confiscates the package, you REALLY don't want to the the guy who's on the hook the day the Officer has nothing more pressing to deal with.

And if this turned up during the investigation, it would show that you KNEW you were doing something illegal and would remove mitigation (lowering the fine) from the options.

You just never know what you might be bringing into the country, and into your tank, when doing something like this.

There are PLENTY of aquatic plants that are very difficult (or just simply impossible) to find in the United States, but that are more common overseas. You can't find everything on the SNS or through plant retailers in the United States unfortunately.

I will take your words for it since you work for customs.

This is true, mainly one of the reason why I looked oversea. I've tried online retailers, SnS, APC, Aquabid but nothing.

I rather just play it safe then and just wait or somehow try to propagate what I have.

Thanks everybody.

I tried to get something very benign from Aqauticmagic and this is what happened:

All the hardware came in just fine, but I wouldn't recommend ordering anything live.
