9 Cardinals and 3 Ottos in a 5 gallon?

Are 9 Cardinals and 3 Ottos too much for a 5 gallon? I'm running an Ehiem 2213 and they all look good.

Overstocked, but if you plant heavily you should be okay. Keep up on water changes.

P.S. When trying to figure out if you're overstocked, water column swimmers and bottom feeders are in two different categories.

I think space might be the issue here for the cardinals. Those fish don't have the highest bio load so you should be fine, esp. w/ running a 2213.

The cardinals do get big so they need the swimming space. Maybe green neons would fit better in a 5 gal, or some fish that doesn't school so that they don't need the large swimming space.

I agree green neons would be a much better choice.

I've seen some female Cardinals that were close to 2 inches. They wouldn't have enough swimming room in a 5gal.

simulans or innesi. correct. But even so they are restricted by space
You can try CPD or microrasbora (they school great)
