New to FW and need some HELP

Hey folks!!! So I'm new to planted FW tanks but do have 4 reef tanks running.

The FW tank is a 20High rimless. As of last night I have the Floredepot and some very fine blk sand installed. I have a HOB filter and will be looking into Hagens new nano type CO2 injector, when it hits our LFS.

Lighting is my issue. I have a cpl T5/MH combo fixtures but have read they would be much too intense. I know I could just use the T5's but it seems a touch "goofy" to go that route, so I'm thinking of just going with a 2' Glo T5 fixture...single lamp.

Sound do-able?

TIA!!!!

if you are going with co2 i would say to get a dual bulb fixture, especially since its a taller tank.

with co2 injection most of us usually choose canister filters. surface agitation causes the water to off gas co2

and the most important thing is... welcome to the site!

Hi, and welcome. I'm pretty new here also. Lots of knowledgeable people on here, especially some that can help with your lighting questions.

Not sure how much the Hagen kits are to buy ard refill, but I would guess that this might save you some money on CO2.

Some members have been experimenting with paintball gun CO2 tanks. Should only cost $30-40 for all the parts, and you just refill the tank when it gets low (about $4-5 to refill every 4-6 months depending on how much you use. Just wanted to mention it incase it you had not seen it yet. Seemed like it might fit your needs. Good luck with the tank.

Welcome to TPT!

You'll definitely need CO2 even with just a single bulb Glo fixture. I'd probably add a bottle of Excel to your shopping list, just in case you need to dose it in addition to the DIY CO2.

Excellent!! Well I'm leaving soon to go pick up the 2 lamp Glo fixture.

I actually bought a big bottle of Flourish Excel and I forgot already what the other Flourish product was...liq. fertilizer or something.

Nice start!

IMO some Crypts would look nice in there, add a bit of contrast.

And you need a background plant. Crypt balansae or retrospiralis, or perhaps some Vals...?
